Where Can I Scrap My Caravan for Cash?

If you've got an old touring or static caravan, maybe one that's too tired to use, a bit beaten up, or just not worth the hassle of getting back to its best, you might be thinking about finding a scrap price. However, before you get in touch with a scrap yard, it's a good idea to check whether it's worth more than just a scrap price.

At We Buy Every Caravan, we don’t have a scrap service - but we do buy older touring caravans and static caravans that still hold resale or parts value. Sometimes, what looks like nothing more than scrap could still bring you a fair cash offer and free collection - without the hassle of paperwork or dealing with a scrap yard.

Don't worry, if you're convinced it's scrap time - we'll also explain exactly what you need to do.

How Much Is a Scrap Caravan Worth?

Honeslty, the scrap value of a caravan isn’t usually that high - usually somewhere between £100 and £500 depending on weight and what the metal’s worth. But not every caravan that’s seen better days is truly scrap.

Many touring caravans still have reusable appliances, furniture, or fittings that give them resale value. Others can be refurbished, resold, or used for spares.

That’s where we come in. Before you scrap your caravan, get a quick quote from us - it costs nothing, and you might end up with a much better deal than the scrap yard could offer.

How Much Does It Cost to Scrap a Caravan?

Most scrapping caravans through a local yard or treatment facility comes with costs - towing, disposal fees, and sometimes paperwork charges. It's difficult to estimate exactly what these will be - simply because it's often based on your location and the specifics of you van.

So, what happens if you get a quote from us instead? Importantly - there’s no cost at all. If your caravan could be used or resold by one of our trade network, you'll get free collection anywhere in the UK - and you'll have cash in the bank (or your hand) before they take it away.

If it turns out to be true scrap, we’ll point you in the right direction - no pressure, no pushy sales talk (we promise). Just a straight answer on what the best next steps are for you.

What Is a Static Caravan Scrap Value?

Thanks to their size (and the occasional missing wheel) scrap static caravans can be expensive to move. Beyond the charge from a park for getting it off its pitch, scrap yards might offer a few hundred pounds, but once transport is factored in, you could very well end up out of pocket.

However, if your static caravan still has a solid structure, decent interior, or working appliances, it could still have resale potential - especially as cheap accomodation to someone who's building or extending a house.

We regularly buy caravans that owners originally planned to scrap - and many have been pleasantly surprised by how much they’ve got for them. So before you send it to the holiday park in the sky, it’s worth seeing if your static caravan scrap value might actually be a real value.

No, It’s Really Scrap – What Do I Do With It?

Sometimes, there’s no saving an old caravan - usually if it’s damaged beyond repair, waterlogged, or missing too many parts to be worth anything. If that’s the case, you’ll need to scrap it responsibly to avoid environmental issues and any future liability.

Here’s how to scrap an unwanted caravan in the right way:

1. Get Your Paperwork Together

Before anything else, make sure you’ve gathered up proof of ownership, some form of ID, and your registration documents if you still have them. Most authorised facilities will ask for these before taking the caravan.

2. Find a Licensed Treatment Facility (ATF)

Look for a DVLA-licensed Authorised Treatment Facility (the modern name for scrap merchants) - these are sites approved to dismantle and recycle leisure vehicles properly.

They’ll safely deal with materials like aluminium, fibreglass, and gas fittings, while recycling as much as possible to reduce waste.

3. Clear Out the Caravan

Take out all personal belongings, appliances, and anything you might want to reuse or sell - even older fridges, awnings, or furniture can sometimes be worth listing online. Once it’s scrapped, you won’t get those items back.

4. Arrange Transport

If it can’t be towed, you’ll need to arrange scrap caravan collection or book a flatbed transport. Some ATFs can collect for a small fee, while others may offer free collection depending on your location and the size of the caravan.

5. Tell the DVLA

Since August 2025, caravans over 750kg that are going with you to Europe must be registered with the DVLA. It's unlikely that you'll be scrapping a caravan this new, but if you are, you should let the DVLA know that your caravan has been scrapped.

This step officially removes it from the road and ensures you’re no longer responsible for it.

6. Keep the Certificate of Destruction

Once the process is complete, the ATF will issue a Certificate of Destruction (CoD). It's worth keeping this document safe - it’s your proof that the caravan was disposed of legally and that your ownership has ended.

Where Can I Find a Scrap Caravan Dealer Near Me?

If you've decided that your caravan’s really at the end of its life, there are scrap yards and caravan disposal services across the UK that can handle dismantling and proper recycling.

It's worth repeating though - many people write off a caravan too early. If it’s largely intact - even if it’s a bit dated or has some wear, it could still hold value.

That’s why we always recommend that before you commit to scrapping, get a free valuation with us. It’s a hassle-free process, and we’ll let you know straight away if one of our UK-wide network of traders can made a competitive cash offer.

Even if it’s not something we can buy, you’ll at least know it's definitely destined for the crusher before calling the local yard.

Remember - Get a Quote Before You Scrap Your Caravan!

There’s no harm in checking with us for a price first. Many people assume their old caravan has no market left - but we buy a wide range of touring caravans and static caravans, even if they’re a little dated or need TLC.

You’ll get a free valuation, a fair cash offer, and we’ll arrange collection if we agree on a deal. If not, you’ll at least know you’ve explored every option before sending your caravan to the scrap heap.
